ABILENE, Texas - The Abilene Zoo announced the death of Kito, a male giraffe who had been part of the zoo's family for more than 10 years.

Zoo officials said Kito was humanely euthanized after a significant decline in his quality of life over the past several days.

Animal care and veterinary teams made the decision following extensive evaluation and consultation with specialists involved in his treatment.
