County Judge Rob Kelly confirmed late last week that the county is in preliminary negotiations with the City of Kerrville to purchase the former Kerrville Police Department building on Sidney Baker Street.

The building originally served as the Kerrville Bus Company headquarters and bus station until the city purchased it in the early 1980s and converted it into a police station, which opened in 1996.

In the Aug. 24 regular meeting of the commissioners' court, Steve Thompson, a resident of Pct. 4, stood up at the beginning of the meeting during the public input portion of the agenda and told commissioners that he "had heard a rumor" that the county was considering purchase of the building.
