LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - The city of Lubbock is observing the 25th anniversary of the death of Police Sergeant Kevin Cox, who was accidentally shot and killed during a SWAT standoff on July 13, 2001.

The incident began as a domestic dispute at a home near 87th Street and Geneva Avenue around 11 a.m. Officers said the husband refused to come out of the house.

Cox was killed by friendly fire during the standoff.
