The community mural, created by muralist Alvaro "Deko" Zermeno and Ismael Muiz, honoring Robb Elementary fourth-grader Layla Salazar may be seen on the west side of the St. Henry de Osso building, 114 E. Nopal St. (Melissa Federspill|Leader-News) Vincent Salazar, the grandfather of Robb Elementary School shooting victim Layla Salazar, is inviting the Uvalde community to a picnic in his backyard on July 11 to remember those lost in the May 24, 2022, tragedy and form a new advocacy organization.

Layla, 11, died alongside 18 of her fourth-grade classmates and two teachers in the attack.

Her grandfather has since become a vocal activist against gun violence.
