TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) - A Temple-based nonprofit focused on keeping pets with the families who love them has installed the city's first self-service microchip scanning station, aiming to help residents reunite lost animals without sending them into the shelter system.

Human-Animal Support Coalition, a 501(c)(3), placed the scanner outside its low-cost spay, neuter and vaccine clinic at 1506 Paseo Del Plata, Suite 100.

The station allows anyone who finds a pet to scan for a microchip and contact the pet's owner through the microchip manufacturer."Most people want to help lost pets, they just need the tools," said Amy Dixon, the organization's director.
