June is Responsible Fatherhood Month, as proclaimed by the New Braunfels City Council on Monday, June 8.

With Father's Day approaching, Responsible Fatherhood Month is a time to honor all fathers, whether biological, adoptive or simply a father figure, the proclamation stated.

Fathers play a vital role in helping children grow and plan for their future, according to the proclamation, and "good fathering and co-parenting during infancy, childhood and adolescence contributes to emotional security and has overwhelming positive psychological and economic benefits for children, families, communities and other sectors." Strong families are foundational to thriving communities to address social challenges like addiction, teen pregnancy, crime and school dropout.
