Barbara Bryan says she took on Nana Camp when her grandchildren could no longer attend Camp Tecaboca, and now she's in her third year.
"My six grandkids all live in the DFW area," she says.
"My husband Houston Bryan and I raised two daughters. Katie is married to Joel Stout, and is a social worker living in Fort Worth. They have two daughters, Cerah who is a high school senior and Emelie, a fifth-grader. Neely is married to Trey Kneggs and they live in Forney, just east of Dallas. She is the principal of Criswell Elementary School, and she's the one who got me started making sourdough. They have a son, Bryan, a high school junior, and freshman triplets Ruby, William, and Savannah. Each of the six grandchildren has a very different personality." Bryan says, "I grew up going to camp. I camped for seven years, until I graduated from high school, and I want my grandkids to have that same experience. So I decided I would make camp their Christmas gift every year, and started sending them to Camp Tecaboca. My two grandsons would come during the boys' sessions, and my four granddaughters during the girls'. The younger children would attend the day camp and stay at our ranch overnight, but as they got older, they would go 'full-time' and sleep in the camp cabins." But in 2020, during Covid, Tecaboca had to shut down, so she had them all come at the same time and organized fun activities for them to do.
