GILMER, Texas (KLTV) - The annual Yamboree festival in Gilmer brings in more than carnival rides and sweet potato pies, it's also responsible for bringing a million dollars to the economy through local businesses and vendors.

In 1935, Gilmer, Texas, held the first-ever Yamboree.

It was a celebration after a quarantine on local sweet potato crops due to a weevil infestation was lifted.
