Seven West Texans, including Happy Day Humane Society Director Khristy McMahan of Big Spring, are preparing for a journey of more than 3,000 miles to help rescue dogs find their forever homes in Canada.

The trip is being led by Connie Weant, director of CMC Rescue and Transport, an organization that has coordinated rescue transports and adoptions in Canada for more than seven years.

The group is scheduled to leave June 21 for a five-day road trip transporting rescue dogs to pre-approved adopters in eastern Canada.
