It's no secret that many Americans are struggling to cover basic needs.

According to a survey from the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, 53% of consumers carry credit card balances to cover daily expenses.

One in four say they've been carrying those balances for at least six months and 57% say it would take them at least 6 months to pay off their unsecured debt.
