MERIDIAN, Texas (KWTX) - Alongside a weekend parade and fireworks show, Meridian held a memorial service Saturday as part of the city's celebration of America's 250th anniversary.

The service took place at Meridian City Park and included speeches from local veterans, information on resources available to those who have served, and a 21-gun salute.

Veteran Al Poteet spoke at the event, addressing the significance of the occasion."Today we honor those who contribute to the tradition of service, our veterans, our active duty military, and the men and women who answer the call here at home every single day," Poteet said.
