NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - City and county emergency management leaders in Nacogdoches held a hazard mitigation meeting, allowing residents to voice concerns and learn more about the plans officials said they are putting into action.
Mike Self, the emergency management coordinator for the City of Nacogdoches and the city's assistant fire chief, said the city and county cannot prevent every hazard but can take steps to reduce the impact."Not that we can stop lightning from striking trees and causing wildfires. Not that we can stop floods, but what can we do to lessen the damage when a hurricane takes place," Self said.
Self said safety is a priority and that the town hall was held to educate the public on a new hazard mitigation plan."Correlating the plan that the city of Nacogdoches had previously with the plan that Nacogdoches County had, correlating those two plans together and getting us both eligible to do education campaigns and such to inform folks of those things," Self said.
