BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - A Bryan High School student dedicated his Eagle Scout project to honoring fallen police officers by creating a memorial now on display at the Bryan Police Department.

Roman Smith, a sophomore, built three benches and a bronze statue to honor his godfather, Bryan Hebert, who died in the line of duty with the Beaumont Police Department when Smith was an infant."My inspiration was my godfather. He was a police officer in the Beaumont Police Department," Smith said.

"I never got to meet him because I was a preemie and he died three months after I was born."Project honors godfather and fallen officersThe project, which Smith named "Bryan for Bryan," honors both his godfather and fallen officers at the Bryan Police Department.
