A man pleaded not guilty in U.S. District Court to charges of smuggling undocumented immigrants after his arrest at a Smith County furniture store.

TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A man arrested at a Smith County furniture store on charges of smuggling undocumented immigrants pleaded not guilty Thursday in U.S. District Court.

Arturo Alcantar-Perez, 30, made his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge K. Nicole Mitchell in the federal court's Eastern District of Texas.

He is one of four people accused of conspiring to harbor and transport undocumented immigrants beginning in May 2023, according to an indictment.
