The New Braunfels City Council was briefed on a draft ordinance to amend the city's code of ordinances related to data centers on Oct. 19.
At the Aug. 24 meeting, council directed city staff to draft an ordinance amendment to regulate data centers, The Herald-Zeitung previously reported.
Currently, data centers are not specifically mentioned in the city's code, so by default, they are allowed in the city's heavy industrial zoning districts, M-2 and M-2A, or with a special use permit (SUP) overlay in the light industrial districts, M-1 and M-1A, Christopher Looney, neighborhood and community planning director, said.
