After a public debate over former Uvalde County Judge Bill Mitchell's legacy, Uvalde County Commissioners Court members voted 5-0 June 8 to rename the fairplex as the "William R. Mitchell Uvalde County Fairplex," honoring the late judge's role in developing the county's popular event venues.

Three speakers voiced opposition and one spoke in favor of the move.
