The Pleasanton City Council voted to keep the city's license plate reader project in place during its regular meeting June 11 after a motion to reconsider the purchase order for the system failed.

During public comments, several residents voiced support for the license plate readers, including citizens who were victims during the robbery at Center Pharmacy and were held at gunpoint.

The residents said the technology could have helped law enforcement identify suspects sooner, noting it took approximately a year and a half for arrests to be made in the case.
