A local rabies quarantine has been established in Atascosa County after a wild fox tested positive for the virus and bit two people, local officials announced Wednesday.

The two individuals sustained bites during the encounter and are currently undergoing precautionary post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) treatments, according to a press release from the Atascosa County Animal Control Department.

The incident took place during the night of Friday, June 19, in the 6300 block of State Highway 97, located in the Pleasanton area.
