HENDERSON COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A company previously seeking to build a data center near Cedar Creek Reservoir has decided to retract its proposal.

Henderson County Precinct 1 Commissioner Wendy Spivey said the company, Diode Ventures, informed the county of the decision not to build near the Key Ranch and Ceder Creek Lake area Wednesday morning.

Area residents previously worked together to raise awareness around the proposed project, gathering more than 2,500 signatures to "Save Cedar Creek Lake.""This was not the outcome of one person or one elected official. It was the result of a community that became informed, got involved, and respectfully made its voice heard," Spivey said in a social media statement."I want to thank every resident who attended meetings, asked questions, researched the facts, signed petitions, wrote letters, sent emails, made phone calls, and spoke with courtesy and conviction. Your participation mattered."Spivey also thanked the company for listening to the community and for deciding the area "was not the right fit."RELATED: Thousands sign petition to "save" Cedar Creek Lake from proposed data center
