Emotions were high at the New Braunfels Independent School District's regular board meeting on Monday as a dozen students and parents of the Long Creek High School Embers dance team spoke on how the sudden absence of their beloved coach from campus has left them feeling angry and upset.

The dance team director, Melanie Hastings, has been placed on administrative leave, according to the district.

In an email statement to The Herald-Zeitung, the district said Hastings is currently employed with NBISD, but that the district cannot comment any further on personnel matters.
