CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Corpus Christi Police Department Police Athletic League received a $428,485 donation on Wednesday to help complete renovations at its youth sports complex, designed to serve underprivileged children in the Coastal Bend.
Officials said the donation from the Charity League of Corpus Christi will help pay for finishing touches at the new baseball and softball complex, including batting cages, bleachers and equipment for players and umpires.
Deputy Chief of CCPD's Operations Bureau Donald Moore said the Police Athletic League was created to give children a place to play sports without the high costs often associated with youth leagues.
