The Comal County Historical Commission was recognized with the 2025 Distinguished Service Award from the Texas Historical Commission, as proclaimed by the commissioners court on July 9. "The Comal County Historical Commission has accomplished substantial preservation work that celebrates the role of history in our lives and acknowledges with thanksgiving the outstanding contributions made by those who came before us while emphasizing stewardship of our cultural and historical resources, encouraging economic development and generating interest in the history and character of our county," the proclamation states.
The commission has partnered with many community groups and agencies, including the Comal County Commissioners Court, Texas Historical Commission, city of New Braunfels' Comprehensive Planning Department, Parks and Recreation Department and Historic Landmark Commission, New Braunfels Conservation Society, Heritage Society of New Braunfels, Headwaters at the Comal and the Sophienburg Museum and Archives.
Thanks to the numerous volunteer hours of Historical Commission members, several historical structures in the county have received marker designations, such as Market Plaza, Dittlinger Village-La Calera, Luersen House, Frueholz Medical Building and more.
