BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - State officials in Texas are continuing their battle against New World screwworm, as the number of outbreaks documented reached 12 earlier this month."There's no magic concoction that's going to fix this, this sterile insect technique or those sterile flies are the solution going forward. And once we have enough of those, we can probably have a little better handle on stopping it. And they're on the way, but they're not here yet," said Karl Harborth, a Texas A&M livestock specialist.
Gov. Greg Abbott has announced millions of dollars in funding for research and tests to combat the threat.
Friday, Abbott announced a new website for residents across the state to stay informed."In short, we're using every single tool at our disposal, working very closely with our governor, Governor Greg Abbott, and all of the teams on the ground in Texas, in New Mexico, and across this country," said Brooke Rollins, U.S. agriculture secretary.
