The Kerrville Garden Club celebrated 85 years since its founding during its regular monthly meeting in February.
Josephine "Dodo" Schreiner founded the club in 1941, and it became a federated club in 1950, affiliated with National Garden Clubs Inc. and Texas Garden Clubs Inc. The club honored several outstanding members during the meeting, including Zelma Hardy, who served as the first woman mayor of the city of Kerrville; Camilla Salter, who with her husband, Forrest, published the Mountain Sun newspaper; and Mikey Daniel, who was a member of the club for 32 years and served seven terms as president.
In 1998, Alice Davies was honored as the Texas Garden Club's Woman of the Year.
