Playhouse 2000, Kerrville's community theater, is preparing to open a new comedy thriller in the VK Garage Theater on Nov. 6. "Red Herring," a new play by Michael Hollinger that is part spy thriller, part love story and part screwball comedy, is set during the Cold War and the infamous McCarthy era.

It tells an intertwined tale of three star-crossed couples, each somehow involved in international espionage.

The audience first meets Maggie and Frank, played by Katie Bishop and David Remschel, two hard-boiled cops trying to make a relationship work despite their obsessive devotion to duty.
