LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - The Angelina County District Attorney's office is understaffed and overwhelmed, carrying a backlog of more than 5,000 cases with only five prosecutors on the job, and District Attorney Amy Wren says the community is paying the price."Cases don't get better the older they get," Wren said.

"They normally get worse."Prosecutors are generally recommended to carry between 200 and 250 cases at a time.

In Angelina County, each prosecutor is currently handling roughly 1,000 - four times that standard.
