Bandera County commissioners are expected to consider declaring a local state of disaster Thursday in response to the threat posed by the New World screwworm, according to the agenda for the court's regular meeting.
The meeting is scheduled for 10 a.m. June 25 at the Bandera County Courthouse, 500 Main St. Agenda item 10 calls for commissioners to consider a declaration regarding the screwworm threat and authorize County Judge Richard Evans to sign the order if approved.
The New World screwworm is the larval stage of a parasitic fly whose larvae feed on living tissue in warm-blooded animals.
