HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Four volunteers who spent nearly 380 days inside a Mars habitat simulator at Johnson Space Center are set to emerge Saturday after more than a year without sunlight, shopping, or in-person contact with their families.

NASA's CHAPEA mission 2 crew has been living inside a simulator housed in a Johnson Space Center hangar, taking part in a mission designed to study how isolation, distance and a hostile environment affect humans before NASA sends people to deep space.

Because of the simulation's conditions, the crew could not do live interviews.
