BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) - The Brazos Valley African American Heritage and Cultural Society wrapped up Juneteenth week with its annual parade, a tradition now in its 14th year.
On Saturday, around 40 vehicles rolled through Bryan traveling from Kemp-Carver Elementary to Sadie Thomas Memorial Park.
Event organizer Helen Washington said the day carries significance beyond the parade itself."Juneteenth is a federal holiday, and it didn't get easy. You know, a lot of people lost their lives, seeing all that we may have the freedom we have today, and we can enjoy this holiday," Washington said.
