The Big Spring City Council accepted a major donation for a future community center, approved several infrastructure and technology purchases, and heard public concerns ranging from neglected properties to water service issues during its regular meeting Tuesday night.
The biggest announcement came when council members unanimously accepted a $3 million grant from the F. Marie Hall Foundation to support construction of a new Big Spring Community Center.
Convention and Visitors Bureau Executive Director Susan Himes said the foundation originally requested an application for $2. 5 million but ultimately awarded the city an additional $500,000. "This puts us a nice way towards where we're willing to be to hopefully get this project up and running and ground broke next year," Himes told the council.
