Local veterans took to the skies Saturday morning as the Dream Flights "Spirit of Texas" tour made a stop at McMahon-Wrinkle Airport, giving several residents of the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home a chance to experience flight aboard a historic World War II-era aircraft.

The veterans climbed into a restored 1943 Boeing Stearman biplane, the same type of aircraft used to train military pilots during World War II. Each flight lasted about 15 to 20 minutes and provided participants with a unique opportunity to relive memories of military service and aviation history.

The Dream Flights organization, a nonprofit dedicated to honoring seniors and military veterans through flight experiences, brought the "Spirit of Texas" aircraft to Big Spring as part of its statewide tour.
