GALVESTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Two former correctional officers are behind bars following an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a female inmate at the Texas Department of Criminal Justice's Hospital Galveston Unit, authorities said.

According to TDCJ officials, Kenneth McDaniel Jr. and Kamron Kirk were employed as correctional officers but were fired after an administrative investigation concluded.

Officials announced their arrests on Thursday afternoon, and both were charged with civil rights violations and improper sexual activity with a person in custody.
