WACO, Texas (KWTX) - Ironman organizers have canceled the swim portion of Sunday's triathlon because of conditions in the Brazos River, according to a social media statement."Following continued monitoring and assessment of conditions in the Brazos River, we have made the decision to cancel the swim portion of Sunday's IRONMAN 70. 3 Waco triathlon," the statement reads.
"Recent rainfall has led to water-quality concerns, increased debris, and unsafe river conditions that prevent us from safely conducting and supporting the swim."The race will now begin with a bike time-trial start from transition, with athletes starting in sequential bib-number order beginning at 7:30 a.m. Transition will open at 6 a.m. Organizers ask athletes to be standing by their bikes at their racks by 7:15 a.m. According to the statement, athletes will have four hours and 20 minutes to complete the bike portion.
They will have seven hours and 20 minutes to complete the bike, second transition and run.
