SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A Troup man was sentenced to probation for an aggravated assault with a deadly weapon charge stemming from a shooting in Smith County on Aug. 6, 2025.

According to an arrest affidavit, Justin Wayne Hayes, of Troup, was arrested after shooting at and striking a man on his own property on the 19,000 block of County Road 4116 north of Lindale last year.

Hayes was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
