This week is Native Plant Week, a time to recognize the important part they play in the natural heritage and ecological health of Texas, according to a proclamation from the Comal County Commissioners Court on Oct. 15.

Native plants provide essential habitat, food and shelter for wildlife and pollinators, the proclamation stated.

The Texas Legislature declared the third full week in October as Texas Native Plant Week in 2009, thanks to the efforts of members of the Native Plant Society of Texas.
