MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - The City of Midland is warning residents about a potential scam involving individuals posing as members of the Sheriff's Office.

According to the city, scammers are contacting residents by phone and sending official-looking documents claiming the recipient is in contempt of court for failing to appear for jury duty or a court hearing.

The fraudulent documents list fines of $4,500 and $7,500.
