TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Smith County commissioners proclaimed Tuesday as "Bullard High School Softball Day" to commemorate Bullard High School's girls' softball team winning the state championship.

The win marked the first state championship in program history for Bullard ISD, and Coach Julie Murry was named Texas Girls Coaches Association Coach of the Year."We did make history this year in terms of winning a state championship for our school," she said during the monthly commissioners court meeting.

The team entered the playoff season after winning its seventh straight undefeated district championship and swept each of its five opponents before its 3-0 win over Prosper Richland for the state title May 29.
