Oklahoma ranks 44th in the nation for children's well-being, according to the Kids Count Data Book, which measures economics, education, health and family factors.
The state struggles most in education.
The report finds 77% of fourth graders read below grade level, and 83% of eighth graders are falling short in math."It saddens me as a librarian," said Gail Oehler, executive director of the Southern Oklahoma Library System.
