Uvalde residents and city council members questioned Aug. 25 why the city repeatedly spends less than budgeted for street overlays, a pattern a Leader-News review found stretches back several years.

The city had spent $74,492 of the $300,000 budgeted for overlays this fiscal year as of July 31, while officials are proposing to increase the allocation to $425,000 next year.
