HILLSBORO, Texas (KWTX) - A rural North Texas county that became the first in Texas to ban data center construction has seen the lawsuit that forced it to back down quietly dismissed - closing a legal battle that lasted just 43 days but raised questions that are far from settled.
Hill County's Commissioners Court voted 3-2 in early May to impose a one-year moratorium on new data center construction in unincorporated areas of the county.
The move came amid mounting public pressure over concerns about water use, electricity demand, noise and quality of life as eight data center projects pushed into the area.
