KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - June is PTSD awareness month, and medical professionals say the condition affects many Central Texans and veterans.
Amy Mersiovsky, director of nursing at Texas A&M Central Texas, said PTSD is a mental health concern for people who have been through a traumatic experience."PTSD is a mental health concern for people who have been through a traumatic experience. Now, they may have had that traumatic experience a few days ago, a few weeks ago, or a few years ago before they really start to see signs and symptoms," Mersiovsky said.
Symptoms like high anxiety, increased anger or agitation, nightmares or flashbacks of the traumatic event are common, particularly among combat veterans.
