After concluding a formal review of its library collections for compliance with Senate Bill 13 earlier this year, the New Braunfels Independent School District removed more than 150 books from its library shelves, citing noncompliance with the bill.
SB13 prohibits the inclusion of materials in school libraries that are considered indecent, profane or harmful.
A district review team comprising a retired librarian and a policy and compliance coordinator looked at books initially flagged by artificial intelligence technology for further review, deeming them either compliant or noncompliant, and choosing to move some up to the high schools, The Herald-Zeitung previously reported.
