TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - A Tyler woman created a scholarship to honor her late mother and support students from a specific part of the city as they pursue higher education.

The Phyllis Shackelford "Be a Bright Light" Scholarship was established by Katrina Shackelford-Collins, CEO of Spark Tomorrow 22, to honor her mother, Phyllis Shackelford.

Phyllis Shackelford was a graduate of John Tyler High School and lived in Tyler from 1953 until her death in 2023.
