One in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer in her lifetime, according to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.

Early detection of the disease gives patients the best chance of beating cancer, Resolute Baptist Hospital Director of Imaging Roben Caufeld said.

The American Cancer Society, the Society of Breast Surgeons and the American College of Radiology all recommend that women begin getting annual mammograms at age 40. "That's why we do screening mammograms once a year, because the older that you get as a woman, the increased risk of breast cancer you have," Caufeld said.
