The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday: On July 12, 2026, at approximately 4:14 a.m., officers with the Brownwood Police Department were dispatched to the 3200 block of Milam Drive in reference to a weapons offense.

Reports stated that vehicles described as a gold Chevrolet extended cab pickup and a black Chevrolet Equinox appeared to be chasing each other and firing shots near the Brownwood Aquatic Center.

At the time of the incident, multiple players and families were participating in the annual Midnight Madness youth softball tournament at the nearby Bert v. Massey II Sports Complex.
