FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) - Months after a deadly shooting left a 17-year-old girl dead and a 21-year-old man wounded at the Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area, Fort Hood officials say the popular lake destination is fully open to the public again - but with new security measures in place.

Fort Hood announced Wednesday it has added gate guards at the entrance to BLORA, a move officials say is designed to preserve the family-friendly atmosphere at the recreation area.

The change comes after a chaotic May 23 incident that ended with the fatal shooting of Mia Griffin, 17, of Harker Heights, and the wounding Kaden Johnson, 21.
