KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) - The Killeen Police Department's community crime map is back online after being down for roughly six weeks while the department transitioned to a new records management system.

Police Chief Pedro Lopez said the department moved to a records management system called Niche, a process that involved converting reports and crime data."We had over 2-million records that we had to validate and make sure all the records are right. Of course, with that amount of data, there's going to be some errors in the data. So, that's why the community crime map went away because Niche wasn't attached to LexisNexis, which is the community crime map partner," Lopez said.

Map access restoredLopez said the map going offline was not an attempt to avoid transparency."We publish our annual reports, our use of force reports, we're getting ready hopefully by the end of December on finishing all the policies. So, all our policies are going to be online," Lopez said.
