COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - How to tackle housing density and affordability is a question many cities are asking themselves."I do feel like that the key to our success is to get density up. The actual dirt here in College Station is incredibly expensive and is only going to continue to appreciate and become more expensive over time," said Councilmember Melissa McIlhaney.

44% of the housing in College Station is single-family, something that Councilmember Bob Yancy says is nearly 20% below the national average."Because we're a college community, and so we've got that high-density student tower cluster going over there and other things. We're behind the curve relative to single-family residential homes," said Yancy.

Multiple council members stated that if the density issue can be resolved, affordability will follow.
