KILGORE, Texas (KLTV) - A free microchip reader station in front of the Kilgore Public Library has been helping reunite lost pets with their owners since it was installed in late 2025.
Vanessa Cogswell, the animal control officer for the City of Kilgore, said the station provides a valuable service when animal control is unavailable."Animal Control is only available Monday through Friday 8 to 5," Cogswell said.
"So having this available after hours is incredibly helpful because sometimes the public will pick up a dog so that it doesn't get hit by a car or get further lost in the city."The station includes step-by-step instructions for scanning a microchip and reuniting an animal with its owner.
