LUFKIN, Texas (KTRE) - A federal judge dismissed five of the seven claims against Stephen F. Austin State University in a discrimination lawsuit over the cutting of certain women's sports.U.S. District Judge Michael J. Truncale ruled that two female student-athletes can continue with their claims against SFA while dismissing claims from five other plaintiffs who had graduated or whose athletic eligibility had ended.
The lawsuit alleged SFA violated Title IX by eliminating the women's varsity beach volleyball and bowling teams in May 2025, along with men's and women's golf teams.
The university later reinstated the sports teams after the lawsuit was filed.
